I’ve come across a lot of people who really seem to admire 6birds not because of me, but because it is a site name with a number in it. It also often creates some controversy between a few people that will literally argue against me and those that I have told. It’s really frustrating when I type “6birds” into anything that requires me to put my site name in (directories, review requests, etc.) only to see my site name become something totally different such as “6 birds”, “6 Birds” or “6Birds”. No. It’s 6birds. Kind of like Georgina’s site name, Heartdrops. One word, no space – and definitely not “HeartDrops”. It’s explained on her “Site” page.
What people (my visitors, friends, etc.) don’t know/understand, though, is that I get really tired of having a number in my site name. It isn’t as “easygoing” as it may look. It takes a lot of creativity to think of a way to make 6birds not look the same every time. Sometimes, I get jealous of those whose site names can be written in all lowercase or uppercase and be aligned together. When I feel like having 6birds in lowercase, I have that stupid, irritating 6 that always sticks out and makes things difficult for me.
People don’t understand exactly how hard this is. I love 6birds to death, but the number annoys me to the point that I’m not sane anymore, and I get tired of it[1. “It” refers to Fin – blogging, having 6birds, owning 6birds, etc.].
It’s not easy. It’s kind of like that “someday” that’s in the header. That stupid y is making the header look bigger than it should. It said “6birds” before. I might change it back. I think I liked it that way. I could always make it change to different things, but that would interfere with the different styles I’m wanting to make to this layout later on.
If I had had the patience to figure it out earlier than yesterday, I would have. Basically, the single.php would have already had a sidebar, and page.php would have had a sidebar. Of course, the sidebars would be all dynamic and fancy shmancy, but maybe later.
Hm, I wonder what will inspire me on my next layout that I decide to make?
P.S. Did any of you actually watch the music video? At least skip to the last minute… Trust me, it’s worth it. ๐

I saw this post a while back and I wanted to comment on it, but forgot to after I read it. This is me commenting on what I forgot to comment. If that makes any sense! ๐
Anyways, I can see what you mean. Sometimes site names are very versatile and can be used many different ways compared to other names where they very hard to use them. It can be a challenge if your name isn’t very versatile.
You can’t really blame people as they don’t honestly know. It is easy to get confused, but part of the problem you have is what does 6birds have to do with your website? Most of the time there is some connection between the website/website owner and the name of the website. Once you figure that out, it might help when it comes to designing and using your website name.
In the end it is up to you. If you are happy with the name, then keep it, if not then, change it. You are the owner and it is up to you! ๐

Haha yeah. That ticked me off so much. It is also annoying when people ask what you site name is and they just write it as something else. 6birds is a lovely name. ๐ I don’t like it written any other way either.
The song is great. ๐ I’m glad I took the time to watch the video.
I hate when fonts don’t look right in certain sizes or pitches. Also, with “6” standing out, I think you should use it to your advantage to put some colour variation into your themes. I can picture a bold layout with “6” in one colour and “birds” in another in the title. :3

I tried doing the different coloring in this one with 6birds, but I couldn’t figure out which to use — span class, div id, div class, p class, etc. D: Blah. Maybe next time. ๐

I hope people don’t list it as Six Birds. That would majorly suck. Just like I hope people aren’t listing me as Molla Ing. It’s molla-ing for a reason. Technically mollaing but that looks like mollaying which sounds weird.
I really like your site name though but I see a lot of people doing #word format as a site name. It’s become a trend and not everyone can pull it off.
Liz
What do you mean by the #word format? o.o And yeah, mollaying does sound weird. ๐

You should go write a page similar to Georgina’s explaining your site name. Honestly, most of us, myself included, probably make those mistakes without realizing that they are mistakes. I’ve changed your link on my site!
I like how your site title changes. ๐
Liz
Haha, I didn’t know you had my site linked on your blog like that! :O
I’m working on it, actually. I’m just having some trouble trying to figure out what it should sound like and how it should be written! ๐
Thanks! I thought it would be fun! ^^

LOL That ending is GREAT and a surprise.Even though I really liked the music, I kept thinking there’s got to something else. Then I thought is was the bright colors, but no…there was more.
I’d never heard of Sara Bareilles, but I liked this song. Thanks for sharing it:~)
p.s. I also like the name of your site!!!

Hmmm I’ve never given much thought to you having a number in your site name, to be honest. It’s always be “oh yup” to me, like it’s just a fact, and that is all. Plus, i like the number 6, it’s the only even number that i like (even numbers have to end in 6, or it bugs me… :S) so i’ve definitely always liked it.
I get annoyed with staticimage.net because i CAN’T decide whether I want it to be Static Image or StaticImage or whatever else O_o it was just a thing from an idea i had when I was 15, and now 5 years on and no longer a teenager… the idea still exists, but the site name still bugs me. Gah. Therefore, I feel your pain. Except, at least you KNOW how you want it! haha.
Caity
It’s your site so you can do whatever you like. If you like 6birds then who cares what anyone else thinks? If they don’t get it then that’s their loss! I get people who are asking me all the time what caitynu means because they don’t understand what the NU is. I don’t care. I love my website.
Maybe you can try using different fonts and making the 6 in front different sizes to change it up a bit?
Liz
Haha, isn’t NU a New Zealand domain name? ๐ I’m curious… Is it cheaper in NZ than it is in the US? Or is it the same? Although I guess it would be the same if you purchase it from the same registrar (i.e. NameCheap).
I could. I’ll play around with it for a while. ๐
