Alter Ego // wholesome yuri ft. friendship and a healthy enemies-to-lovers romance

I’m not always for an enemies-to-lovers trope, but when it’s healthy and friendship-focused? Yessss, please.

One night, in a moment of desperation, Noel ends up confessing her feelings for Elena to a complete stranger — but as fate would have it, this stranger turns out to be a girl named June, Elena's other best friend... and Noel's rival in love! Worst of all, now June knows Noel's secret. With everything suddenly going wrong, how can Noel ever win the girl of her dreams?

Overall thoughts + review

  • Going into this, I was nervous due to the plot being about two girls vying for the same chick/best friend, because these plots are usually suuuper nasty in regard to how the girls treat each other.
  • Enemies-to-lovers isn’t really a spoiler. Between the cover, the first few pages, and the intro of her BFF, it’s clear her BFF is going to keep her BF.
  • The cover is a bit ironic, though.
  • This is the perfect example of what I want to see in lesbian fiction — focusing on friendship, healthy communication, apologies/making amends, personal development, etc. in addition to the romance.
  • The artwork is sooo beautiful.
  • The story comes full-circle, though I’m sad it was a one-shot. I also wonder if the BFF knew more than what she said!
  • Great if you want a cute, fluffy story.
  • I’m actually impressed a yuri/girl’s love manga could be so wholesome!
  • I thought they were high school age before, but they’re at least drinking age — so I classified it as “new adult” because they’re at least in college.

ALSO: As of publishing this, it’s available via Kindle Unlimited × ComiXology. I’m on a free trial of both.
