My glam favorites at the moment

As someone with loads of allergies, I’m often asked what products I use. Sometimes I find things and stick with them, other times I mix it up and try out new things.

During the winter, I’ll change, of course.

It’s probably unexpected of me to use these products because:

  1. Unless I missed a memo, none are labeled as hypoallergenic.
  2. I’m not a girly girl; I’m just creative — which means I fill my environment with things that inspire me — and that makes me come off as girly.
  3. I’m not really knowledgeable in beauty products at all, nor do I venture out and find different combinations; I just use what works, and I scrap what doesn’t.

…And please don’t suggest to me any products. I’ve tried almost every brand, am allergic to organic beauty products, and lack money to actually try other products. Hypoallergenic products are a definite NO for me. I’m allergic to Dove®, Clinique and ProActiv®.

Jergens® Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer

Yes, it’s self-tanning lotion. Yes, I self-tan. I’m allergic to sun block. I can use an SPF of up to 15, but it doesn’t do much good. Even if I wasn’t, I’d still use this stuff because I like the long-lasting smell and how it tans the places that wouldn’t otherwise receive sunlight. It’s not really that hard, and as long as it’s sporadic and you use the correct shade, it shouldn’t look too fake.

Mine usually stays until spring, but it really just depends on my health. For example, people with anemia tend to be pale. Heh.

I apply it after my shower and before I get dressed. The next morning I could tell a difference because I realized something I shouldn’t have done (see tip).

I think Jergens® is the only lotion brand I’m not allergic to.

Tip: The directions say to wash your hands after applying, but if you do so instead of rubbing it in, they won’t tan, and you’ll end up with an obvious line with paler skin from where you washed the lotion off.

Herbal Essences ‘Honey, I Smell Good’ Body Wash

While I’m well aware they have this in shampoo and conditioner, the two products aren’t always available, and the body wash works just as well. I wash my hair with it first only every other day, because the honey helps lighten my hair.

I used to have natural red highlights, but then the red decided to expand to all of my hair. I recently discovered this stuff helps it just a tad. My hair is slowly going from chestnut brown to auburn, and I’m not even having to dye it.

(I’m just speeding up the process.) 😉

…of course, you can also use it for body wash as well. Think of it as a two-in-one deal.

Suave Professionals® Black Raspberry + White Tea Shampoo and Conditioner

Once I run out of this set, I’ll be switching to the Rosemary + Mint one, because I can stand the scent more than this floral berry scent[1. I like to create scent combinations that result in me smelling like candy or something that isn’t easily reproduced and lasts long, because I don’t necessarily wear perfume.].

I don’t really have anything to say about this other than the fact that I use it and it’s the first set of shampoo and conditioner I’ve used in a really long time. I had the Almond + Shea Butter set at one time, but almonds. Sometimes things don’t register for me until it’s ‘too late’ or ‘already over and done with’.

The Rosemary + Mint one has more of a tang-like scent to it that I adore, so I’m hoping I’ll love it. 😉

Caress® Glowing Touch® Body wash with Shea Cream and Gentle Skin Brighteners

…I didn’t realize the ‘skin brighteners’ when I was looking for body wash. Honestly, I normally choose the scent first. Last time I used their Scarlet Blossom™ one. I only changed because I wanted a more subtle scent this time around, and I used it during the winter and spring seasons. I try to stay with Caress® body wash products, because they keep my skin soft, smooth and red-free.

Anyway, I use this one after the honey only every other day, and I can only hope it doesn’t contradict my self-tanning process. :p

Garnier® Fructis Style® Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Perfector™ Straightening Mist with Argan Oil

I bought this in either 2011 or 2012, and I use it very sparingly (i.e. 1-2 sprays onto my pocket-like fold-up brush. It helps keep the frizz controlled to an extent. I’m not sure how well it works with keeping my hair straightened or protecting it.

I don’t always use it, as I don’t always put stuff into my hair. 😉

eos™ Summer Fruit Vitamin E Fruity Lip Balm

My dad bought me this last year for my birthday, and I wasn’t a fan of the scent or the taste. It’s a few months past a year later, and this thing has been my favorite over my cherry-flavored Lip Ice. I’m not sure why I like it, but it’s kind of easier to apply and makes my lips softer. They also don’t dry out as quickly.

MMajor cons: It’s NT pocket-friendly, and that’s important.~T

I used to use Jergens way back when I was into my self-tanner. It always smelled so good (so many self-tanner smell like yuck to me). I haven’t tried any of the others except for EOS (love!). I have tried the mint and the strawberry and my lips seem to really love it.
