Raving Roundup: August 2011

I think I did really well last month blogging-wise. See, I was afraid I had blogged too much. I’ve been trying to watch myself with my blogs. It was pretty hard. Most days I felt like blogging, but I didn’t want to “go off schedule” – whatever imaginary schedule I really have for myself (if any at all).

This month I have learned that when life give you lemons, it’s not always easy to turn it into something sweet and refreshing like lemonade. Life’s full of both lemons and limes, and I’m hoping that for you this is no surprise.

I’m really loving the fact that I have been doing these Raving Roundups because for me, it’s a time of reflection between myself and my blog. I can remember everything that happened and everything that went on – even if I do not put it into words on a page – and it’s sometimes fun. I feel like it helps me grow as both a writer and an individual, and that’s why I do it. It is also a great challenge for me to challenge myself with, and I think that that’s all that matters.

My Raving Roundups don’t necessarily have to have descriptions – this time I challenged myself to explain why I do them so that those who don’t understand why I continue to do them monthly can/will know.

However, my five favorite posts for August 2011 are as followed:

I read all those posts you linked there, and it made me realize doing a monthly assessment for your blog is good for you. You actually get to see how much you’ve changed over the month. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the idea! I’ll try doing this next month, and if I like it, I’ll be doing it every month, and I’ll be crediting you for that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey are we still affies? I knwo i have been gone quite a while… lol but im back now if you still want to be?

I don’t really do affiliates anymore; I took them down a long time ago. I do a blog roll, but I don’t really add to it much. o.o I’m sorry. I’ve changed my blog quite a lot.

When life gives you lemons I guess you just have to make the most of it. ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s what I try to do most of the time. It’s not always going to be pretty but you have to make do.

I don’t think you could blog too much. I like that you post frequently, it’s kind of refreshing to be honest. I feel like I’d prefer shorter more frequent posts like you, rather than me… big ass posts every two days hahaha.

I have reflection posts on glassfields.net, but that’s just usually to go over my monthly goals. ๐Ÿ™‚

I loved that “Why do you blog” post! Definitely on the top of my list too. <3

Yeah, I almost missed posting yesterday. D: It was pretty killer. Come October I will have a full thirty days worth of reflecting. Fun, huh? Sadly, I’m not looking forward to it as much. ๐Ÿ™ I like posting every other day now, but I know I will fail myself if I quit doing this BEDS crap. It’s only six days in, too!

You have definitely been blogging a lot recently. Despite the quantity, it doesn’t seem like the quality’s been sacrificed, as I find most of your posts interesting. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a schedule too, but it’s once a week. I usually write the actual posts the weekend before and schedule it for Friday, but that gives me time to edit (though schoolwork prevented me from editing my latest one…).

I liked Why do you blog? as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ It gave me a blog post to write too, hehe, so thank you!

I didn’t really get to read the rest though. Since you’ve been blogging so much, I’ve only been able to read about 1/4 (or less) of what you’ve written!

Once we’re done with the final exams (which are in a couple of weeks), I’ll probably be reading all the blog posts I’ve missed from some blogs, because I’ve missed a lot!

Blah. I’ll be doing BEDS, too, which is similar to BEDA — which means I will blogging a lot this month (it’s actually kind of scary, methinks).

Blah. Good luck with the finals, though! :}

(Sorry for the duplicates on this thing; I kept messing up. :/ )

I really like the idea of reflecting on your blogs over a month! It can show how you change, even though a month to change is very quick. I hope I can blog at the same place for a year and see how I’ve changed/matured. That’d be SO cool. ๐Ÿ™‚

You can never blog too much! I know people who blog every day lol. But, I get where you’re coming from ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree with you. blogging on websites is fun and it helps you grow as a writer and a person. The nice thing is that if you still have your website years down the road, you can look back at what you shared etc. You’ll also notice a change in your writing style as you go too ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha, I am going to be blogging everyday as a BEDS challenge thing. ๐Ÿ˜›

Yes, I love watching myself grow as a person and a writer. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello Liz,
Thank you for dropping by my page ๐Ÿ™‚ A host family is basically a family in a foreign country that takes students in and makes them feel at home, away from their blood-related family. Usually the families are chosen by the government (after application of course) and then the parents of the student pay the family to take care of their kid abroad. That is more comon for kids who come as a result of an exchange program in high school. My case is a little bit different in the way that : 1) my host parents are not getting paid by my family to take care of me. they are just a couple that took me and my friends in so that we would have a place to call “home” while in the US 2) I didn’t get “matched” to a family. I kinda found them myself. And it was my sophomore year of college.
Hope that was clear enough lol

As for your Roundup, I have ever thought on doing such a thing. So you do that every month? How often do you blog?

You’re welcome — thank YOU for returning to mine! ๐Ÿ˜›

Ooh, that seems really awesome and fun… Like, an amazing thing to do! But it does take a l lot of trust, I’m guessing? That is something I struggle with having for others a lot of times. Dx

Yes, I do it every month. I first saw Rose do it (but I can’t find the blog post now). How often I blog per month depends on life online and online, as well as mood. I am currently doing BEDS (hover), though, so I will be posting everyday this month. ๐Ÿ˜›

@Liz, Oh I see! I have never done anything like BEDS or even Roundups lol Do you have any other challenges like that that you do?

As for trusting people, yes it is not easy. That’s why I found my host parents myself lol. After being introduced by my friends of course ๐Ÿ˜€ I stayed with them for a week during Thanksgiving, and then started coming back for weekends and other occasions. And now we are used to each other, so when I feel the need to get away, I just call my host mom and let her know I will be coming for the weekend or a week or whatever time i need to be away. And they never mind, as long as they are home ๐Ÿ˜›

I do! I have my Factual Friday meme I need to get back up on — I was doing the #100facts about me meme with that on Fridays… I think I will be catching up on it theme coming Fridays! ๐Ÿ˜‰ This Friday, though, for sure. ๐Ÿ˜€

Haha, that is really cool — and nice! ๐Ÿ˜›

I think it’s very wise and therapeutic of you to reflect on yourself. It’s definitely going to make you a better person. /pretty

Hope everything works out better. Go away lemons and limes! ๐Ÿ™

I sometimes have the same problem with feeling like I need to have a blogging “schedule”. I don’t want to blog too often, but I don’t want to barely blog at all either. Then sometimes I feel like I should blog once every 5-7 days or so, but I’m starting to realize that trying to make a schedule for when I blog is just pointless.

I really should learn to bring only the necessities on the first day of school. All I ended up needing yesterday was a pencil and a folder, even though I brought four binders, three notebooks, two packs of paper, etc.

Thank you! Yesterday was my first day, and it was pretty great. ^.^

Blogging whenever you feel like it is cool, too, but I think it all depends on what the blogger is comfortable with — and everything that is currently going on!

๐Ÿ˜› haha.

it’s good what you’re good. it’s like you can say to yourself, at least a month didn’t go wasted like that.

Haha, thanks. :}

There is no such thing as blogging too much. Hey, if you have a lot on your mind and you want to write it on your blog, go ahead. Your blog is YOUR blog. Do whatever you want :D, Also blogging should be spontaneous and fun, not a job. hehe

I like to have a routine, though. Without a routine, I get burnt out on things too easily. So I don’t like to really blog as much as I want to.
